Key size relationships: a US men's 9 equals a UK 8.5 and an EU 42.5. A US women's 8 equals a UK 6 and an EU 39. Note that US men's and women's sizes use different scales — a US women's 8 is approximately a US men's 6.5. EU sizing is based on Paris points (2/3 of a centimeter per size step) and runs the same scale for men and women, making it the most universal system. Asian sizing (used by many Chinese and Korean brands) is typically foot length in millimeters.
Why sizes vary between brands: shoe sizing is not standardized across manufacturers. A Nike size 10 may fit differently than an Adidas size 10 due to different lasts (foot-shaped molds).
