GPA Calculator
Calculate weighted GPA from letter grades and credit hours
About this tool
This free GPA calculator computes your weighted cumulative grade point average on the standard US 4.0 scale. Add each course, select its letter grade, and enter the number of credit hours. The calculator multiplies grade points by credit hours for every course and divides the total by total credit hours — giving you an accurate weighted GPA rather than a simple average.
Letter grade to GPA conversion: A+/A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D− = 0.7, F = 0.0. A 3-credit A weighs three times as much as a 1-credit A, which is why higher-credit courses have a bigger impact on your overall GPA.
Your GPA matters for many academic milestones: maintaining scholarship eligibility (often 3.0 minimum), qualifying for Latin honors (cum laude ~3.5, magna cum laude ~3.7, summa cum laude ~3.9), applying to graduate or professional school (most programs expect 3.0+), and academic standing (universities typically place students below 2.0 on probation).
To improve a low GPA, focus on high-credit courses where a good grade has the greatest impact. A B in a 4-credit course boosts your GPA more than an A in a 1-credit course. Add as many courses as you need — click "Add Course" to expand the list.
